7 Benefits of Bodyweight Exercises

Work out to a Leaner, Healthier You

Fit and toned body? Who doesn’t want that, right? Being fit and toned certainly helps in making you look good in almost anything. Of course, more than just the aesthetic, being fit also means that you’re making sure your body is healthy.

Unfortunately, wanting to be fit and actually working to achieve fitness are two very different things. It’s easy to dream about a lean, healthy body. Getting there is the hard part. What many people don’t realize, however, is that it doesn’t really take a lot of brainpower to achieve physical fitness. Many simple bodyweight exercises will not only help you get stronger, but also build muscle, improve cardiovascular health and burn fat.

Why should you want to do bodyweight exercises? Here are 7 reasons.

  1. Efficiency

Bodyweight-based exercises, especially the high-output ones, yield great results. Compared to other exercises, they also do it in a shorter amount of time. So less time doing the exercises and fantastic results at the same time? What’s not to like?

Bodyweight exercises nix the usual equipment. That means you can transition from one move to another with shorter rest times between them. This helps boost heart rate and that means you burn calories faster, too.

  1. All-in-One

A good workout must have cardio and strength training ideally. But not everyone has the time to spare for both. Not so with bodyweight exercises.

Put it this way, a quick minute of jumping jacks between strength exercises gets the cardio requirement of the way. That’s the all-in-one answer to get your heart pumping.

  1. Fast Fat-Burner

If you want to lose weight fast, then bodyweight circuit training is the way to go. It helps with the body’s metabolism. You’ll be shedding unwanted pounds fast.

  1. Core Strengthening

If you think the “core” means your abs only, you’re wrong. There are around 29 muscles making up your core. If you want to strengthen it, then you have to exercise all those 29 muscles. Bodyweight exercises are designed to do just that. As an added bonus, you also get better posture and improved athletic performance. Not bad, wouldn’t you say?

  1. Flexibility

Tight muscles and inflexible joints are the bane of many strength training enthusiasts. This is almost always eliminated with bodyweight training. For one, bodyweight exercises usually employ a full range of motion. That keeps joints moving freely. That also means the risk of exercise-related injuries is reduced. Yoga is one good example.

  1. Convenience

No time for exercise? That excuse won’t fly with bodyweight training. The fact that you won’t need any special equipment to do it means you can exercise anywhere, anytime. As long as you have enough space to move, then you can do your routine.

  1. Something for Everyone

Gyms can be intimidating. I’ve seen many people give up on their fitness goals because seeing all the buff, toned and muscled people at the local health club gave them anxiety about their own level of fitness.

That’s the truly nice thing about bodyweight exercises. You could be a beginner and there are many easy bodyweight exercises to start you off. More advanced people won’t have trouble adjusting to higher tension bodyweight workouts, either.

And if you’re bored with the usual bench presses and bicep curls, bodyweight exercises have many variations to get you out of the rut. Do them outdoors or indoors, alone or with a group of friends, you’d be sure to find at least one activity that you’ll like.

Bodyweight exercises are the cheaper alternative. But cheap doesn’t mean you get lesser results. If anything, it can give better balance and prevent injuries. Developing your core also amplifies the results of other exercises.

They say there’s no “one best way for everyone” to exercise. But bodyweight exercises sure have a lot of benefits that even other more rigorous trainings can’t match.
